Okei, tässäpä tulee. Toivottavasti ei ole liian pitkä. Muotoilut voivat olla vähän päin *** mutta tämä on sama jonka postasin RGRA:han:
My first melee character victory ! Even though the char did use spells in the
end most of the game completion was pure melee. Most of the spell usage was
done after closing the gate and cleansing corruption and even then the char
handled most opposition in melee (or missiles in the case of karmics). Now
that I have had several normal victories with magic-users, one Archmage
victory and one melee character victory I guess I should aim for ultra ending
next. Or perhaps try a victory with a mindcrafter (apparently very hard to
get started but a killing machine later on).
The game took very long, playing on-off, mostly only few hours a day with
several days in-between, so I can't recall the events with 100% accuracy. Mostly
they should be accurate, however.
The game started the normal way, through Terinyo to SMC and locating the
downstairs. Fortunately they were close to upstairs so I returned to Terinyo to
get the carpenter quest and the tiny girl quest. Unfortunately the way in PC
was blocked early on by a river so the dog couldn't be saved. Rescuing the
carpenter was easy, however, though I didn't immediately take it, rather
gaining some experience levels in the ID first. After performing the quest and
gaining some more experience and stuff in the ID I took the trip through SMC
and descended to the UD. The UD didn't have anything interesting IIRC and the
passage through the HMV was relatively easy.
Exiting the HMV to the world map I headed for the main dungeon, popping to the
old barbarians glade along the way to pick the courage quest. One level of the
main dungeon had a 2x2 square of herbs containing stoma, so I spent some time
there gathering herbs for crowning. Got crowned in the Dwarfville, gaining
Bracers of War (Yay !) and lightning immunity (Aw...). Would've preferred fire
immunity, but what the heck.
Got the "kill a monster" quest from dwarven elder and got something common
(can't remember what, though) so finishing it was easy. Also got the Griff
quest and left for the pyramid. The pyramid, dwarven graveyard and Nonnak level
didn't pose much trouble.
For a fair while the game was relatively uneventful, with the char not having
much trouble with monsters. I decided to fetch the RotHK before tackling the
ToEF, hoping the ring would ease up the tower. In the cavernous levels of the
TotHK I wandered around, killing monsters and collecting stuff until an ogre
magus showed up. As I didn't have much means of freezing the water in the
piranha lake I decided to utilise the kind help of the OM. With the ancient
mummy wrapping the frost bolts of the OM didn't even faze the PC and I could
easily trick it to freeze the lake. I didn't want to take any risks of falling
to the lake, so I had the magus freeze the entire lake over before dispatching
him. The skeletal king didn't cause much problems, even though I had to heal
while fighting him.
Having pilfered the ring I then popped over to the ToEF for that oversized
marble. The tower was surprisingly easy with monsters falling to my fists of
fury. To avoid unnecessary damage and corruption to the char I fought most of
the fire elementals, fire grues and fire demons either on very defensive or
coward, felling the inhabitants of the temple one at a time until the evil
maggot popped up - and got his sorry a** handed on a plate. With the orb in
possession I left the tower.
Water temple was largely uneventful, though I found the big maggot surprisingly
tough and had to use my fireball wand that I got from the dwarven elder.
At one stage I was severely worried of corruption. Even though the char didn't
have much corruption yet (IIRC only one or two effects) the char only had two
puny !oCC and the one scroll from HMV. I surely needed some more corruption
removal, so I decided to get the weird tome and exchange it with some ?oCR.
At one level of the rift dungeon I found a glowing wand and decided to give it
a try. Yep. "What do you wish for ?". I used the one charge on the wand and
the last wrested charge on some ?oCR (got 5) but still decided to keep to the
plan. In the library I used invisibility to get some peace from most of the
monsters and used some time to read some of the spellbooks I found. At this
stage the char still had no concentration and had a poor Le so learning spells
wasn't very effective but it used up enough time to satisfy the ghost librarian
so that I got the weird tome and took it to the mad minstrel. After this I had
some dozen ?oCR and guessed they would be enough.
Descending the dungeon was largely uneventful. Air temple was a piece of cake -
even the master summoner easily fell to fists of fury. About the only problem
there was the item loss from the lightning but I took haste in the temple and
also used the safe spot to reduce item loss. Battle bunny level was quickly
skipped using a wand of digging to quickly dig straight down from stairs and
quickly dispatching Bugs and a lone battle bunny. Cat lord quickly fell to a
combination of wand of web, wand of poison and some (non-slaying) arrows fired
on berserk. Fortunately I hadn't killed too many cats at this stage.
In the casino a problem arised - while picking up stuff to pile on the far
corner I gained the poison hands corruption without noticing and spoiled some
potions. Sadly, at this stage I still hadn't found one single pair of thick
gauntlets - not even in the casino. Fortunately the char could afford to pay
for the spoiled potions and the corruption was quickly removed. I was lucky
not to get the mana battery corruption...
In the earth temple I used darkness against the grues and led the earth
elementals downstairs one or two at a time, killing them there. The stone beast
didn't seem to mind poison bolts from wand much so in the end I had to tackle
it mano-a-mano. Fortunately it wasn't that bad and soon I was one more orb
richer.
In the mana temple problems started. Bad ol' Nurgy didn't seem to mind my
numerous attempts at poisoning him with a wand and in the end the char was
forced to run for his life to the earlier level and lick his wounds. The char
also needed to pray for healing after losing his healing potions to - yes -
the newly acquired poison hands corruption. At this stage I *STILL* hadn't
found a single pair of thick gauntlets ! Foolishly I had also swapped the
ancient mummy wrapping to some other armor (robes of resistance, IIRC), thus
losing the see invisible intrinsic. However, after regaining my strength I
returned to the mana temple and gave N-V a right royal kicking. If there is
one thing worse than a pissed-off chaos archmage it's a pissed-off
beastfighter. However, after kicking his sorry ass and getting the orb I
noticed one big problem - somehow ol' Nurgy had managed to destroy most of
my ?oCR, leaving only one or two. Now, with corruptions coming quite fast
I was getting worried but decided to try or die. Quickly advancing to D48
I dispatched the elemental anomaly guardians, popped the orbs in their
respective locations and descended to D49.
In D49 I remembered that I had a !oUselessness just a few steps from the
stairs down but decided to use it anyway. The result was the staff of archmagi,
truly a useless gift but I decided to keep it anyway.
On D50 I ran out of ?oCR, fortunately the monsters dropped couple of them.
The biggest problem came from the ghost lords who managed to age the char to
a little under 400 years. The balors were also a big problem - killing them
in fisticuffs took ages and the char took heavy damage (also gaining more
corruption). Fortunately the char had wand of destruction, so I took the
easy way out - handling the levers, destroying them and then quickly leaving.
After cleansing corruption with the GWU I decided to play some more. After
all, winning in ADOM is no mean feat. Also, I wanted to get rid of unnatural
aging before finishing. Fortunately the char had learned alchemy from a !oEdu
and the first two recipes were for potions of longevity and youth. I started
off by scumming the ID for stuff, even going as far as ID200 and back to world
map. Along the way the char found couple more wands of wishing and some RoDS.
Some wishes were used on potions of youth, some in more skills (mainly
concentration, find weakness and such). The ingredients for !oYouth were not
too common so removing the aging took a fair while. At one stage of ID scumming
I got intrinsic see invisible from a stalker corpse and later also intrinsic
invisibility from another.
At one stage the char learned Wish from a potion of wonder and I decided to
try for Archmage. Sadly, the char didn't find a single spellbook of wish
despite heavy scumming so in the end I abandoned the idea. I mostly did some
ID-scumming, lots of wilderness scumming (quicklings and black dragons) and
loads of BDC scumming. At one stage I wanted to have some fun so I went to
dwarfville, summoned up some monsters and had them kill some inhabitants before
slaughtering them. The priest got killed by some chaos rats (too bad he didn't
get transformed into a chaos being <evil grin>

and one female dwarf also was
killed (naturally I cooked her corpse <evil grin>

. Just before leaving I
popped to Terinyo and wished a cute dog for the girl. Too bad it doesn't show
up in the post...
