I've lived outside of Finland for over 5 years now. When I write long sentences in Finnish, In my head it sound unintelligent, with this sort of unnatural rhyme. Also, it takes me a long time to figure out if a word such as soccer is jalka pallo, jalka-pallo or jalkapallo. Then people think I'm still in middle-school, or " special".

Wednesday of this week, I'm doing a 20 minute oral presentation on the social and political backround of the poet Seamus Heaney, and how it reflects his work. I'm so nervous, even though I know my shit.

Our English teacher told us that the language one speaks, changes one's personality. For example, she said that she is totally different person when she speaks English, German or Finnish.

Anybody around here got the same feelings? I think I am a different person in Finnish than in English. In English, I talk much more nonsense and stuff that hasn't anything to do with my life.
Yeah, I've noticed that now when I'm in an international school. I'm a bit different than when I speak Finnish.

Now I feel like I have to whine to other people about their Englishrazz

JKchina, I know that feeling. I also hate oral presentation, especially if I have to do it alone.

Now when we are speakin English, I could say that it is really important to speak English in English classes in a Finnish school. When I came to this English school, I couldn't speak English at all. I was good at writing, but it was hard to understand what people said, because we didn't speak that much in the school. So speak English in English classes.

A good thing about Peliplaneetta is that we have to use commas, colons, proper Finnish language and other stuff, so it keeps my finnish up.

When I first arrived at an international school, I had learned English at a fifth grade level in Finland. At that time, our lessons were like "Jill runs. Jill runs fast. Jill runs faster". It only took a month or so to understand better what people around me were saying.

My younger sister has never been to a Finnish school. She's in fourth grade now, and she speaks and writes as well as someone originally from an english speaking country.

I dont' see the corrolation between a persons personality and the language he or she is speaking. I'm a total loser, It doensn't matter which language I speak in.

I used to live in Americas weiner in a small place called Newsmyrna beach near Daytona.
We moved when I was five or six, I didn´t know a word when we moved, but the thing that never fails to amaze me is how in gods name did I communicate with my friends ? and believe it or not, I actually went to kindergarden and after that skipped the 1st grade and went straight to 2nd confused and in the halfway of my school year I hear that I´m gonna get a lil´syster and my parents wanted her to have a Finnish nationality like every one else in the family...

Oh god my english sucks, I should propably start to do stuff in english again, maby that would help me and my crappynesssmile

Uhm, I don't see any difference in one's personality when speaking different languages. Oh well, granted, the Germans - maybe I should learn when the Brits use capitol letters and when they do not - tend to become somewhat... aggressive when they have to communicate with non-German tourists, myself included. It's still quite entertaining, when they _do_ speak English.
Maybe it's because of the dubbing...

The second issue that I've marked in English is the existing difference between American and British English. In (or "at", dunno) schools "they" - those teachers you know - have always said: "We're learning English here and therefore I'd strongly recommend you to use NOT that... that Jiddish in my class!"
I've not had any English lessons for - and yes, I _do_ hate (hate, hate, hate) prepositions or whatever the little things they're called in whatever language - four months now and I've little by little slipped into American English. All in all, without excuses my English is quite a bit rusty.

Gotta memorize this Britannia's way-of-speaking.

"A bloody enormous bunch of lads were at Jeff's appartments where the lasses usually were, hanging around so to speak. 'Say 'em all! Say 'em all old lad!' cried Matt when Peter strongly embarassed after Susie, the local and known 'nut-crusher' came by and shouted not-so-silently: 'So 'ere ye are piggie-wiggie. The last nite wasn't 'nuff fer yer tiny teenie-weenie, aye? I'll show ye from what us 'silly uptown lasses' are made of!'
'Go aways' Peter had replied but even he couldn't hide that little red stuff coming along his face, and sure as hell Matt wasn't the only one seeing it. So, leaving Susie and the rest of the girls, Peter, Matt and a bunch of very very curious 'boys from the neighbourhood' headed back at the grill called 'Mid-town meat, liquids and chips' but in the neighbourhood known only as 'Ed's Sausages'."

"'Really, it was nuffin'!' said Peter between numerous burps. Matt and a couple of others, who weren't merely more intressed in greedly fighting for hot-dogs, listened carefully, all the time trying to spot hidden clues of what has happened. 'But, of course ye understand that Susie's story isn't pretty much impossible?' *numerous smiles, silent laughters and grins agreed* 'I mean, Susie's quite a known girl when it comes to so called 'Happy Friday Nites' *another wave of silent emotions* 'And ye know that we know' Matt added quickly when a sickly red colour flashed in Peter's eyes. 'Sigh' Peter whispered 'Of all lasses I end up with Nuttie-Susie' *another red flash passed the courner of his eye* 'This makes me so mad!' he shouted. Matt and others backed off a bit. 'Just take it easy Pete!' Matt adviced. *many nods* 'What if ye _were_ with Susie? It doesn't change anything, methinks.' Peter's head turned from side to side, like he was suffering a panic-attack. 'And still', Matt continued: 'Ye can still be with Lisa, all the same!' *sympathic muttering* 'NO!' Peter screamed. The voice didn't seem to be his. Some of the boys took a few steps backwards.
Peter fell."

"And rose. In a matter of seconds his posture was somewhat different. The way he held his arms and his head was a bit... twisted. Downwards from his waist, his legs were strongly crook-legged as was his back. His back was turned, none could see his face. Even Matt backed. Then they could hear Pete, or whatever the creature in front of them, muttering oddly. A mix of burps and farts was released from his body. Then his silent mutter went stronger. 'Crescendo' whispered a young boy behind Matt. It was obvious that his fine fubu's were wet around the groin. The smell was strong.
Matt could hear a word from there and two words from here. '... revenge... good meat... excellent lyrics... by far the greatest pair of tits in this world... The Sith will prevail...' It became frightenly clear that Pete was totally out of his mind. Then he turned. It turned.
Not a pair of human's eyes were looking at them. Odd holes, red-burning, lizard-like lynx-eyes stared at Matt and others violently. Teeth were long and weird, as if they didn't fit in it's mouth. 'Death time!' it screamed and leaped towards Matt. An ill, fleshy sound echoed on the street."

"He didn't know how long he had lied there. He remembered, that he had been struck down by one younger boy and hit his head against the terrain. It still hurt, and by touching his forehead he quickly found a bad wound, still bleeding a bit. Peter rose onto his knees, rotating his head and looking around. Torn bodies everywhere. He couldn't regognise a one. There was one headless boy just lying there on his back, obviously holding his guts from spilling out during his last breaths. Further down the street, Matt was kneeling over someone, looking for survivors, Pete rationalised.
After trying hard Pete finally managed to get up. 'Aye Matt! Avright gavvna?' he shouted using London dialect. Matt reacted, but not the way Pete had waited. He looked frightened, hid something into his shirt and staret at Peter. After a while he stood up and came closer, carefully, Pete noted ironically. When Matt was only an arm-reach away, Pete started talking. 'So what has happened he..' he quite didn't get to finish the sentence before Matt struck a knife into his stomach. 'Ye bastard!' he cried, released his knife from Pete's stomach and pushed it into Pete's chest, this time deeper. Matt screamed wildly but Pete couldn't regognise his speech through the pain. He couldn't even cry when Matt pierced his lung. Finally, he fell onto his knees, hardly feeling the knife struck through his throat. And he died, fell into darkness without knowing the reason he never would get to know."

"Matt took a deep breath and stared at his ex-friends bloody body. He had screamed terrible curses at him, but Pete didn't even seem to remember. Then he too fell onto his knees and cried loudly. Tears rolled down his cheeks. Only seconds later his brains exploded out through his forehead along with a loud bang -sound. At the end of the street a man, bearded ice-cream merchant released a laughter. 'And it was the end of all things' he muttered while smiling an odd psychotic smile. Experiencedly he placed his hunting-rifle into his waggon and moved on. After only few hundred feet he was welcomed by a group of children, each holding a variable sum of pounds in their hands, eagerly yelling and playing. 'For sure they're not waiting for ice cream again' the man noted sarcastically. He came nearer, and, absolutely plannedly, rang his small bell meanwhile lifting the metal cover with his other hand exposing at least a dozen different tastes and colours. Children shouted and ran towards him, competing who would be the first one in the queue. The man smiled at little, childish faces. He sure as hell loved his work.
'So, what do we want today?'"

I think Lion king should be k8 movie. Once, when we were traveling to Tallin aboard big ship(right spelling?) and there was a playroom and TV with some videos. Children were watching Lion King. Then came that moment when Simba's father died and all four children began to crycry

Yes, LtSmash, that is our accent, even if we think it sounds terrible(When I was on a english course on the summer, the teachers there said that the finnish accent sounds funny and nice), why can`t anyone understand it? Yeah, anyway, I am 16 years old, I have read english for 5 years now, and been on two english courses in england. You learn pretty much english too from films, from the TV, and from video- and computergames. I understand english pretty well, and I think speak too pretty good, even if I make some mistakes sometimes. My writing is also on a good enough level. Oh well, my school begins tomorrow at 8.15, so maybe I should go and sleep now. I like the school, I am studying to a car-mechanic, but I have pretty long days, normally from 8.15 to 16.00, which is not fun. But it was fun to speak some english too for ecxeption, and sorry my little mistakes in the language. Good night to everyone.
