Pelaaja aloittaa pelin puolueettomana hahmona Rubi-kan planeetalla. Myöhemmin pelaaja voi valita pysyykö hän puolueettomana, liittyykö kapinalliseen Klaaniin vai meneekö työntekijäksi megakorporaatio Omniin. Kullakin puolella on uniikkeja varusteita, joita vain he voivat käyttää, mutta muuten puolet ovat teknisesti identtisiä. AMMATIT
Ammatti valitaan hahmonluontivaiheessa, ja se on pysyvä. Kaikki ammatit ovat mahdollisia jokaiselle rodulle, mutta jotkut rodut soveltuvat paremmin joihinkin ammatteihin kuin toiset. Ammatti määrää hyvin pitkälti pelityylin. Myös varusteet ja aseet ovat hyvin ammattisidonnaisia. Lääkäri on ainoa varsinainen parantaja, mutta seikkailijalla ja kamppailjalla on vähäsiä parannusominaisuuksia. Kolme ammateista kuuluu ns. lemmikkiluokkiin (pet class), jotka komentavat apureita. Byrokraatilla on apulaisdroidi, insinööri luo ja parantelee taistelurobotteja ja metafyysikko kanavoi nanotaidoillaan tunteensa fyysiseen olomuotoon. Jokaisella ammatilla on rakentamiseen liittyviä taitoja (tradeskills), mutta ammatista riippuen se voi maksaa paljon kehityspisteitä eikä näin ole kannnattavaa kuin muutamalla luokalla. Varsinaiset rakentajat pelissä on insinööri ja kauppias. Väestönhallinta (crowd control) on kyky, jolla voidaan ottaa jokin muu olento nanotaitojen avulla hallintaan. Tämä kyky on byrokraateilla, kauppiailla ja nanoteknikoilla. Sotilas, vartija ja suojelija ovat niin sanottuja tankkeja (tanks), jotka pystyvät kestämään paljon vahinkoa. Agentti voi rajoitetusti käyttää kaikkien muiden ammattien nanotaitoja ja shade on puhdas korkean vahingon tekijä (damage dealer). TAUSTATARINA
Tapahtumat alkavat vuonna 28702, kun megakorporaatio Omnin tiedustelualus löytää asuinkelvottoman Rubi-Ka-planeetan. Omni kuitenkin löytää planeetalta uuden alkuaineen nimeltä "Notum", joka mahdollistaa monia mullistavia teknologioita, kuten nanoteknologian hallinta mielen avulla ja sielun siirtäminen uuteen kloonialkioon kuolinhetkellä. Salaamalla tämän Omni onnistui saamaan Rubi-kan 1000 vuoden vuokraoikeuden kaikkien yritysten yhteisjärjestöltä Interstellar Confederation of Corporations (ICC). Monien vastoinkäymisten jälkeen Omni sai pinnanmuodostusteknologian avulla muokattua pienen osan pinnasta asuinkelpoiseksi. Planeetalla Omni harrasti geeniteknolgiaan perustuvaa jalostamista ja loi työolosuhteisiin sopivia ihmisrotuja kuten fyysiseen työhön soveltuvat atroxit, nopeat ja vikkelät opiflexit sekä nanoteknolgian paremmin hallitsevat ja älykkäät nanomaagit. Omni teki lukuisia muitakin kokeiluja eläinkunnan ja ihmisten geeneillä, minkä vuoksi Rubi-kan maaperällä liikkuu runsaasti karanneita vihamielisiä mutantteja.
Huonon kohtelun ja työolosuhteiden vuoksi Omnin kaivostyöläiset aloittivat kapinan Omni-korporaatiota vastaan. Kun kapinaan liittyi lisää työläisiä, he alkoivat saada aseapua ja muuta tukea muilta yrityksiltä, jotka janosivat notum-kaivosoikeuksia. Kapinoijat onnistuivat valloittamaan pohjoisen osan asuinkelpoisesta pinta-alasta ja pitävät hurjuudellaan ja nokkeluudellaan puoliaan teknisesti ylivertaista Omnia vastaan. Omnin ollessa sodassa muita korporaatiota vastaan klaanilaisten onnistui vallata lähes 75 % Rubi-kan asuinkelpoisista alueista, ja sodan heikentämän Omnin oli pakko tehdä tulitauko klaanilaisten kanssa. Omni kuitenkin hallitsi notumin vientimarkkinoita.
Uuden nanoteknologian avulla Omnista irtautuneet puolueettomat JAME-tiedemiehet löysivät Rubi-kan rinnakkaismaailman, Varjomaat(Shadowlands). He loivat stabiilit portaalit Rubi-kan ja Varjomaiden välille neutraaliin Jobe-kaupunkiinsa. Välttääkseen poliittiset selkkaukset he antoivat kulkuoikeden tasapuolisesti kaikkien osapuolien edustajille. Ensimmäiset tutkimusmatkailijat törmäsivät kummalliseen mekaniseen olioon nimeltä Ergo, jonka kerrottiin olleen muinaisen rodun jättämä Varjomaiden vartija. Varjomaailma on Notum-aineen kyllästämä, muinoin kuolleen mahtavan Xu-rodun raunioiden täyttämä maailma, joka on hajonnut erillisiksi ilmassa kelluviksi saariksi. Saarten reunoilla asustaa hurjia kivioliota (Brink Mobs), joiden ainoa tarkoitus näyttää olevat varjomaiden saarten tuhoaminen. Why am I not able to use a certain item or nano crystal?
Check in the chat window and the info on the item. It is possible that you will have to raise one or more skills to be able to use the item.
Why doesn't the mission booth in the backyard, the start up area, give you any mission?
Please note that these mission booths only give out missions for characters that are below level 5. If you are above this level, you will not receive any new missions from these booths.
How can we tell how powerful a monster is?
You are able to con them based on the color of their hit point bar. It runs from white (a lot weaker than you), to green (weaker than you), to yellow (equal to you), to red (A lot stronger than you). These colours will also grade, so that you might find a yellow with a greenish hue, or an orange mob.
How do I get information about items?
SHIFT + Left-click on them.
What skills should I spend my improvement points on?
Check what combat skills and items you are using. This should give an idea about what skills you should raise. Remember to put points on your abilities, too.
Why don't I get my ranged weapon to shoot?
Be sure that you have the necessary ammunition equipped.
Why don't I get into the game after logging in and choosing to create character?
Check if you have chosen hardware setup. This is found in the dialog box where you choose to create character, and later on what character to play.
What are the mission tokens for? How do I use them?
Mission tokens are given to Clan members and Omni-Tek employees by their respective sides as a sign of appreciation for a job well done. Mission tokens are based on how active you are in a mission; for example, killing certain enemies or exploring a certain percentage of the mission area.
To use a mission token, you must first wear your Merit Board (Omni-Tek and Clan only). Click and drag your Merit Board into your wear view to wear it. To use the mission token, right-click it in your inventory and it will be placed onto your Merit Board automatically. As you gather more tokens, the level of your Merit Board will increase and you will be rewarded with some skill bonuses.
What is the Grid? What skills do I need to use it?
The Grid is a means of transportation that makes use of the most advanced technology on Rubi-Ka. At entry points, the bodies of Grid users are broken down using nano technology and encoded in digital form then placed onto the Grid. When someone enters the Grid, they may walk only a few steps to an exit point, even though on Rubi-Ka the entry and exit points may be half a planet apart.
The Grid is dependent on the travellers Computer Literacy skill and to enter at a basic point, a value of 75 in Computer Literacy is required. There are 3 levels, or tiers, to the Grid with basic destinations on the bottom tier, and the more exotic locations on the higher tiers. To use the other tiers, you must increase your Computer Literacy Skill.
What do the different gas zones mean?
The different gas zones are as follows:
*
100% gas Safe: No player may attack another player. No player may attack an NPC (non-player character) or vice versa.
*
75% gas Monster: Players may attack NPCs. NPCs include such things as mutants or aliens. NPCs may attack players. No player may attack another player.
*
25% gas Political: Players may attack NPCs. NPCs may attack players. Players may attack a player belonging to another alignment. For example, a Clan member may attack an Omni-Tek employee, but may not attack a fellow Clan member.
*
0% gas Mayhem. Players may attack NPCs. NPCs may attack players. Players may attack other players even if they belong to the same alignment. For example, a Clan member may attack an Omni-Tek employee, and may also attack a fellow Clan member.
There is no 50% zone.
You will always get a warning when entering a zone or area with a different gas level.
How do I stack items?
Items such as ammunition, first aid kits and monster parts are stackable. This means that a few items of the same type can be placed "on top" of one another in the same place in your inventory. To stack some items, left-click on one item, drag it over an item of the same type, and then left-click again.
How do I separate stacked items?
To separate stacked items, use the combination of ctrl + right-click on the stacked items.
I've found the item that I was looking for in my mission. What do I do with it now?
If a mission requires you to search for an item and then retrieve it, you must take the item back to the mission booth you received the mission at. If you choose a different mission booth, you will not be given your reward.
To claim your reward, left-click and drag the mission item over the mission booth and then left-click again.
I can't even afford any pants! How do I make money?
There are many ways you can make money in Anarchy Online. For fast credits, you can hunt some MOBs. All MOBs will drop at least a few credits for you to pick up. Missions are also a great source of credits. By visiting a mission booth, picking up some missions and then completing them, you'll find yourself with quite a few credits in your pocket.
Other ways to gain credits is to sell some of your items you don't need any more, either to shops or other players. Alternatively, you may also offer your services to other players for credits in the form of nano program buffs or trade skills.
What is an ARK?
ARK is short for Advisors of Rubi-Ka. These people are voulenteers, and are there to help people out with the problems they might encounter. You can reach them via the /petition tool. Read more about ARKs here.

Game (advanced)
How am I able to solve a mission with a team or share it with other people?
There are separate terminals for team missions in the game. They give out missions with boss monsters, several levels and more interesting loot.
However, you are also able to share single players missions with a team. Buy a Mission Key Duplicator in one of the startup shops. Right click it on the mission keys.
NOTE: Sharing a single player mission with a Key Duplicator doesn't make it into a team mission. Only the mission holder will get the experience for now. You can share the money and loot manually.
When will you fix balance problems with profession X?
It is always a good idea to be active on the profession message boards. The Community team reads these on a regular basis, so be sure that your suggestions are reported there. The message board is often a more efficient way to give feedback than sending in an e-mail.
The rest of the answer is quite vague and generic, but it is difficult to be more specific in an FAQ.
We are constantly reviewing the professions and the feedback on them through the message board. Updates will be done through the patches.
Balance means a lot of different things to different people. We would like all professions to feel that they fill a role in the game world. It should be interesting to play them over time. However, some professions will be more difficult to play than others, some caters more to the role-player, some are more interesting for non-combat skills. All this means that two characters with different profession, but everything equal, will not necessarily be balanced in a PvP duel.
Why did my character ‘time-warp’ to a location where it was a long time ago?

I lost an item in my apartment. What happened?
When you put more than 10 items on the ground in your apartment, you should get feedback telling you that this is the max limit for a newbie apartment. Today this feedback is broken. If you put more than 10 items on the ground and zone out of the apartment, the items placed on the ground after you have reached the limit will be lost when you zone back in.
We will add a warning that makes it impossible for players to lose anything this way.
Am I able to duplicate and share my apartment key with others so they may enter my apartment?
We are discussing ways to make the apartment more fun and inviting to players. This includes the option of letting other players enter your apartment. At the moment there is no way for someone else to enter your apartment, but we are looking into it.
I want to change sides in the conflict. What are the consequences of changing sides?
If you are neutral and you wish to change to either Omni-Tek or the clans, you will suffer no consequences in doing so. If you are either Omni-Tek or Clan and wish to swap sides, you will lose all the mission tokens you collected. Neither side recognises the traitorous deeds you did in your past.
If you are a Clan member and are wearing Omni-Tek armour when you change sides, you will be able to wear that armour until you take it off. Once it is off, you cannot wear it again.
If you are an employee of Omni-Tek or a clan member, you are unable to become neutral.
I lost my apartment key. How can I get it back?
If you have lost your apartment key you have also lost access to your apartment. However, a GM (Funcom in-game support member) will be able to reset your apartment key and allow you access to a new apartment.
Once a GM has reset your apartment key you will be able to enter any apartment in any city of your affiliation and receive a new apartment.
Why am I not getting experience in my group?
If this happens to be the case, it is quite possible there is too much of a spread in levels between the players in your group. If two grouped players have too much of a level difference between them, experience cannot be gained by either player. Anarchy Online is designed this way so a low level player cannot "power level" by grouping with a high level player and having the high level player kill easy MOBs. This would result in a massive amount of easy experience for the low level player.
If you target a player in your group and his/her health bar is grey, then that player is at too much of a low level for you to gain experience together. Alternatively, if your health is grey to a group member, then they are too high in level for you both to gain experience.
Are we able to customise our own keyboard strokes?
Yes, indeed you are. When in-game, open the option window ("OPT") and select "Keyboard". Here you will find all the keyboard commands. Click on any command to highlight it. All you have to do then is press the keystroke you wish to assign that command to.
My agent has problems with running nanos. Why do I get the message 'Executing programs is currently unavailable'?
Check if you are running a Cloaking Device. The agent is not able to run nano formulas while using this item.

Patching
When patching I get this error message: Query Info failed (12150)?
This usually happens on computers running Win95 and MS Internet Explorer 3.X or older. We suggest that you upgrade your Explorer browser to 4.X or newer.
I get 'Error connecting to server. The dimension file does not correctly reflect.' error message when logging in for the first time. What do I do?
Click ok and click login again. This will solve the problem.
Where can I find the latest downloadable patch?
Please find the latest standalone .exe patches on the link below. Save the downloads to a local folder and just doubleclick on the icons to start them.
NOTE: The CD is version 11.0, these links go up to the latest version of Anarchy Online. Remember to patch in rising order. The links will most probably save you some time. I get a 'files missing or corrupted' error message when patching. What should I do?
First try to download: ftp://download.anarchy-online.com/patches/aorepair.exe
Place the aorepair.exe file in your Anarchy Online directory, run it, and choose "ok". This tool should be able to fix any corrupted files problems on your Anarchy Online installation.
If this doesn't work, another solution is first un-install, delete the Anarchy Online directory, and then to re-install the game, download the executable patches and run them on your computer. This will take you some time.
How does the AO-team put a patch together? How do you decide what should be in the next patch?
When a patch is put together we consider both the solved bugs, the importance of the fixes and enhancements from all team-members. Then we try to put together a list of fixes and enhancements from the finished list that will make the downtime and download feel worth it for most of the players.
What is a patch?
To add new content or to fix bugs that may occur we use what is called a patch. A patch is basically a whole lot of code that is added to the existing Anarchy Online file on your computer. This code "patches" the game by either adding things or fixing things. If a new patch is available, it will automatically be downloaded when you next start Anarchy Online.
Before patching I get the error message 'dimension file does not correctly reflect the server version'. What could I do?

Graphics Cards and Drivers
Where can I find information about my graphics card?
If DirectX is installed, go to Start -> Run and type “dxdiag” in the open field and hit enter. In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool that comes up, click on the Display tab and you will get detailed information about your graphic card.
If you are having problems that you are unable to solve on your own, run the Direct Draw and Direct3D tests, and choose to save all information. Send the information to Funcom Customer Service with a description of the problem.
What is the maximum resolution I can use in Anarchy Online?
The Anarchy Online engine supports every resolution your graphics card supports. This means you may even use the 2048 x 1536 resolution on some cards. All resolutions must be 16 or 32-bit colour.
The client crashes when I select Direct3D surface on my laptop. Any idea about what is happening?

I'm having a problem with a Voodoo 2 or Voodoo 3 video card while playing Anarchy Online. What could I do?
Make sure you play Anarchy Online in 16-bit color mode. If you are playing Anarchy Online in a window, you also need to make sure you set your desktop to 16-bit color mode.

How do I send a crash bug report?
When sending a crash-bug report please include information about your DirectX setup by running the dxdiag.exe file:

In Windows click Start->Run and then type dxdiag.exe in the Open box and click "OK".

In the DirectX Diagnostic tool click on "Save all information".
3.
Then post an e-mail to bugs@anarchy-online.com with a description on what you did to make it crash (the more details, the better).

I keep crashing to the desktop Why?
A Missing file in Windows 98. There seems to be a missing file in windows 98 and 98SE that helps cure the crashing to desktop.
Solution:
Copy the imagehlp.dll file from the Windows 98 CD to the windowsSystem folder:

Insert the Windows 98 CD.
2.
In Windows Explorer, double-click the win98 folder on the Windows 98 CD.
3.
Expand the *.cab file containing the imagehlp.dll file:

4.

I'm using the download tool GetRight and Anarchy.exe is crashing even though GetRight is not running, why?
"GetRight" can cause Anarchy.exe to crash if "GetRight" is not running properly.
We have received reports that the paid version without the advertisments usually works fine.
To avoid the problem with the free version of "GetRight", make sure it is running (in the system tray), or uninstall "GetRight" to avoid problems.
To make sure GetRight is running, click "GetRight"->"Tools"->"GetRight Configuration" and select the "Monitor" tab. Make sure "Start GetRight when web browser is started" is checked, and click "OK".
"GetRight" will now start each time you start Anarchy.exe

Why am I disconnecting every 15 minutes or at regular intervals?
It is possible that your ISP doesn’t recognise the traffic from Anarchy Online as Internet traffic, and automatically disconnects you because it thinks your connection is idle.
One thing you could try to avoid this, and check if it is the explanation for your disconnects, is to set up your mail reader to look for mail every 5 minutes.
One ISP that we know have this problem is Earthlink.
I crashed, and when I try to log in the error message "character not able to log back in" appears. What should I do?
Check that the character is logged off the chat-server. Log in on the chat-server on the Anarchy Online website with your character, and log off again.

I receive a USER.EXE crash when I try to run the game- what should I do?
This means that your card doesn’t support 32bit color modes you are trying to run. Change the in-game resolution on the hardware options to 16bit color, as in 800x600x16. If the problem persists, change your desktop color depth to 16bit color in the settings tab of your display properties under control panel.

Dimensions
What is a dimension?
A dimension is a group of servers that contains a separate version of Rubi-Ka. We have two dimensions at the moment. In addition there is a test dimension where we put out the latest version of the game. All three dimensions are available to the players. Currently, it is not possible to travel between dimensions.
Why should or shouldn’t I play on dimension 2?
At the moment there are fewer players on dimension 2. Most people would say that this makes it easier to play there because there are less problems with lag in the cities.
Will I be able to move characters between dimensions?
No, we currently have no plans to allow inter dimensional travel

Clan and faction
How do I start an organisation?
Collect a full team (6 team members) of the same affiliation (Omni-Tek, clan, or neutral) who are not already in an organisation. The team leader can then create an organisation by typing "/org create (name)" (without the quotes, and where (name) is the name of the organisation).
How do I add a member to an organisation?
The leader of the organisation, or a member of a membership rank at least three levels above the membership rank a new member will get, can invite others to join the organisation. They do so by targeting the character they wish to invite, and type "/org invite" (without the quotes). The invited target can then accept or decline.

What kinds of organisations exist in-game?
All sides (Omni-Tek, clans, and neutrals) have their organisations. Omni-Tek organisations are normally named departments, while rebel organisations are named clans. Neutral organisations exist, but lack most of the benefits of belonging to a larger system with great resources.

What happens with my e-mail or the questions I submit with the feedback form?
Everybody that sends an e-mail to Support receives an automatic response immediately.
Our support personnel will review the email, and in most cases each email will be answered individually.
Rarely will we use bulk mail to answer questions unless it is a sweeping issue. The difference between a bulk mail and auto-reply is that your mail has been assigned to a specific person in the Support department.
When you receive an auto-reply, please make sure you make every effort to try the given suggestions if they apply. If the auto-reply resolves your issue, you can reply letting us know or just wait for the support team to contact you to let us know.
How do I get help in-game?
Please only use this for emergencies and abuse that we need to handle at once.
Write in the chat window /petition and a short explanation of the problem. This message will be sent to a petition queue that GMs and ARKs read through. They will help you as soon as possible.
Bugs should be reported by using the /bug command in the same manner as the /petition command. Depending on the issue, you may not receive a reply to the /bug. If it is something affecting your ability to play, you may use the /petition command with the bug classification. Please type "/petition help" for more information.
What happens with my petition in the game?
It is sent to a petition tool where your request is listed with the requests of other people. Funcom-employed GMs and some players (ARKs) have access to this queue. They will contact you in the game when they get to your request. In order to get the best possible view of your issue, we ask that you write all needed information in the original petition . Please note that it could take time for GMs to get back to you.
When can I use the /petition command?

What should I do if I am harassed, or people verbally abuse me in the game?
Your first course of action would be to target the character and type /ignore. Then no chat from this user will be displayed.
If, after doing this, the player finds new ways to harrass you, you may use the /petition command to report the player. You may not always get a reply regarding this issue as it may be handled between the support personnel and the offending player.

If I disconnect, will my petition be removed from the queue?
This depends on the issue and if you have already been contacted by at least one support member.
If you have not been contacted by an ARK or GM prior to you logging from the server and that ARK or GM did not tell you they were escalting the issue, your petition may be deleted within 20 minutes of logging.
Is Funcom Support in Norway or USA?

In which languages do you provide support?
We do ask support questions for DIM 1 and DIM 2 be sent in English, although if you read but do not type English very well you can send them in your native language and we will do what we can to work it out. You may get a really bad translation though. :) DIM 3 questions can be in German or English. We would love to provide support in every language, but that isn’t always possible.
When can I expect a reply to my e-mail?
We have people replying to e-mail on all weekdays. Usually you will get a reply within 24 hours, but it could take a couple of days if it was sent during the weekend or holidays.
Billing questions and technical problems that make it impossible for you to get into the game are given first priority by our Support staff.

Can I get a GM any time I want one?
Unfortunately no. No matter how bad we would love to have a GM for everyone, it just isn’t possible. Depending on the situation a GM may become involved, but just asking for a GM will not always get you a GM. The ARK members are very capable of handling a lot of the in game issues and are given tools to that effect.

We have not had anyone hack or steal account information from our servers thus far. Unfortunately we can only see if an account has transferred hands and not if an account has actually been stolen. What does Funcom do to solve problems and bugs?
We collect information from players and employees in a bug-database. All crash bugs where the user accepts to send information are sent directly to the database and assigned to the programmer responsible for the code. Statistics are generated to give an overview of the problems. The list of bugs is discussed on regular meetings and given a priority according to importance.
Why did you fix problem X and not problem Y that is much more serious?
The AO-team is quite big, and all people are not able to solve all problems. Graphic artists and designers are unable to help the programmers and the programmers have different areas of expertise. That is why the patches don't always solve bugs in the order that seems logical.

I am going to re-install Anarchy Online or install it on a new computer. What files do I have to keep to be able to continue to play my characters?
All character information are stored server side. That means that you don't have to worry about deleting any files on your computer to be able to play your characters. You could install Anarchy Online on another computer, and it will still access the same information on our servers.
All character information will be stored on our servers for at least three months after you cancel your account.
Why am I unable to do a full IP-reset?
The full IP-reset was available for about 3 weeks between patch 14.2 and 14.3. As we said in a mail that we sent out to all our current and previous users when the full IP-reset was introduced:
‘But be quick, the one-time IP reset is only available for a limited time, and will be removed after the next patch.’
Please note that limited IP reset is a regular part of the game now. You are able to reset some skills every title level. Read the description of the feature here:
